Tracy Byrd Says Friends Give Credence To 'The Truth About Men'

(7/20/03, 10 a.m. ET) -- When it came time to record the song "The Truth About Men" for his new album of the same name, Tracy Byrd figured he'd just sing the song solo. While tracking the song in the studio however, the singer decided it was a perfect tune for a big sing-along chorus. At that point, Byrd tells LAUNCH he called on his good friends and fellow singers Andy Griggs, Blake Shelton as well as Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry to lend their vocal talent to the song.
"We thought it'd have some marquee value to get some of my buddies to come sing on it with me, and Andy and Blake are two of my best friends in the business,” says Byrd. “We've just gotten to be really good buddies. And Troy is one of my good friends, and Eddie, so I just called those guys up. They were the first ones I called, and they all said, 'Yeah! That sounds great!,' and we felt like that that was pretty much our cast right there."
Bryd says he had a few prerequisites for gathering the perfect cast of characters. "It had to be guys that would get the song,” Byrd explains. “They'd think it was funny, [they] would think it was the kind of thing that they could pull off and get away with, basically, so all these guys fit the bill. They're about the epitome of 'The Truth About Men.' They all love to hunt. They all love to fish and play golf and do all the things that guys do and that I do, so it just worked out well."
"The Truth About Men" holds the Number 17 spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
The album, the Truth About Men, was released on July 1.
The next single from the project will be "Drinkin' Bone."
