Layzie Bone Explains Wait For Solo Album

(4/2/01, 1 p.m. ET) - Layzie Bone became the fourth member of the group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony to release a solo album since the group debuted on the late Eazy-E's Ruthless Records in 1994. Layzie's Thug By Nature, released under the alias L-Burna on March 20, entered the Billboard 200 albums chart at Number 43, one place ahead of his Bone compadre Bizzy Bone who released his second solo album Gift on the same day.
In addition to Bizzy, group members Krayzie Bone and Layzie's brother Flesh-N-Bone have already released solo albums. Layzie recently explained to LAUNCH why it took so long for him to release his solo album. "'Cause I strive for perfection. I really didn't feel like I was ready," he said. "I just got to the point where it was like, 'Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and do this.' Because I always wanted to do a solo album, but I just wanted to wait until I felt like I had all the right material."
Layzie, added, however, that it wasn't hard for him to pull the album together: "No, it really wasn't difficult, because, you know, everybody told me like, they was liking my songs from the beginning. But it was just a feeling on the inside that I was waiting for. And it's within. I put my heart into the project. So I didn't want to rush it."
Layzie has released several platinum and multiplatinum albums with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, including 1994's Creepin' On Ah Come Up, 1995's E. 1999 Eternal, 1997's double album The Art Of War, and 2000's BTHNResurrection.
