They Might Be Giants Preparing To Tell Children 'No'

(2/8/01, 10 a.m. ET) -- On the heels on their newfound success with the Malcolm In The Middle theme song "Boss Of Me," They Might Be Giants are now eyeing an even younger fanbase with a children's album that is currently in the works. The album, titled No, will likely be ready by April or May and might be released by the group's current label, Restless Records, according to a spokesperson for the company.
Giants main players John Linnell and John Flansburgh tell LAUNCH that at least one of the songs is inspired from the experiences of their own youth. "'In The Middle' is a public service announcement jingle that tells you not to cross the street in the middle of the block, which I actually remember from growing up in New York. It was played in the '60s," Linnell says.
"It ran all through, like, the early, or mid- to late '60s, I guess," Flansburgh adds.
"It went, 'Don't cross the street in the middle in the middle in the middle in the middle in the middle of the block,'" Linnell sings.
Meanwhile, "Boss Of Me" is finally available in stores as part of the soundtrack album to Malcolm In The Middle. The collection, also featuring Barenaked Ladies, Travis, and Hanson, was issued on Tuesday (February 6).
