(11/24/99, 5 p.m. ET) - With the cancellation of the New Year's Eve bash Celebration 2000, plans for several performers are now up in the air. Among the acts scheduled for the New York City gig were Aretha Franklin, K.C. & the Sunshine Band, and Kool & The Gang. LAUNCH spoke with representatives of those acts yesterday (Nov. 23), and all said it was too soon to tell what the musicians would be doing for New Year's Eve. However, a representative for Franklin said he expected to know something by Monday (Nov. 29). Celebration 2000, which was scheduled for N.Y.C.'s Javits Convention Center, was canceled due to poor sales. Ticket prices ranged from $1,000 to $2,500 for the over-six-hour event, which would have also featured Sting, Tom Jones, Chuck Berry, and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, among others. The promoter told the New York Daily News that he still hopes to put a show on, but in a smaller venue and with seats going for $75 to $375. Features on Aretha Franklin and Tom Jones are available on LAUNCH.com. -- Bruce Simon, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
