(12/29/97) - After several weeks of intense work on a new studio album, Brazilian heavy hitters Sepultura are heading home for several months to finish writing. The new album is due by mid-1998 in stores. New songs already penned include the sentimental title "Choke," as well as "Boycott," "Common Bond" and "Reza," the latter a Portuguese word for "pray." The band is also searching for a new singer to round out its lineup.Interesting parties can contact Singerman Entertainment, c/o Alex Guerrero, 8833 Sunset Blvd., Penthouse West, Hollywood, CA 90069, or call 310-659-1869. One person who won't be calling is former group lead singer Max Cavalera, who is also hard at work on a new album with his new band, both as yet untitled. Cavalera is now working with bassist Marcello Dias, guitarist Lucio Maia and drummer Roy Mayorga. The quartet recently completed recording with producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Deftones) and are mixing tracks with producer Andy Wallace (Jane's Addiction and Nirvana's groundbreaking Nevermind are among his substantial credentials). Guests on the Cavalera album, which will hit in Spring 1998, include members of Fear Factory, Cypress Hill, the Deftones, Dub War and Limp Bizkit.
