Son By Four, 3 Doors Down, Joe Honored By 'Billboard'

(12/6/00, 5 p.m. ET) - Latin pop sensation Son By Four, Joe, and 3 Doors Down were honored for their chart achievements on Monday (December 4) at the non-televised Billboard Bash, held at the MGM Grand Hotel's Studio 54 in Las Vegas.
Son By Four, which took home the honors for hot Latin tracks artist and three awards for "A Puro Dolor," said they were thrilled by the honors. "We just feel blessed that Latin America has been very noticeable in the market," said singer Angel Lopez. "We're actually a Latin group, so this is our first English album. It's called Purest Of Pain. It just got released, so look for it. There's beautiful songs by us written … Javy wrote 'All My Life,' Georgie wrote 'Why,' I wrote 'Two To Tango,' so it's fun, you know? It's got a little ballad, it's got a little dance."
3 Doors Down took home the honors for new duo or group, modern rock track, and rock track of the year. Guitarist Chris Henderson told LAUNCH he is surprised by the band's success. "Yeah, I'm surprised. I mean, you know, we're from a real small down in Mississippi. Things just don't happen to people there, you know, so it's a big surprise to me."
Joe received the R&B/hip-hop airplay track of the year award for his hit "I Wanna Know," and he said of the honor, "It's great. I mean, it's a wonderful feeling. I mean, it feels good to do something that people can appreciate, and the award is just like a really, really big pat on the back. It's a great accolade. I'm really excited about winning this."
