Indigo Girls' Amy Ray Kicks Off No-Frills Solo Tour Tonight

(3/29/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Indigo Girls' Amy Ray kicks off a tour in support of Stag, her first-ever solo album, tonight (March 29) at the Echo Lounge in her hometown of Atlanta. Ray will use the Butchies as her backing band, the same indie-punk group that helped her create the raw, stripped-down rock featured on much of Stag. The Butchies will also be featured with their own opening set.
Ray tells LAUNCH that the tour will be a real no-frills experience compared to a typical Indigo Girls tour, and that she's looking forward to it. "We don't have to worry about meeting our expenses because we're driving a car, you know? We don't have to worry about the fact that we're paying a crew of 25 people and a tour bus. It's not like that. Our concerns are so different. It's like, well, we have ourselves, I got to figure out how to put new tubes in my amp. It's very different (and) I'm getting something different out of it, and I think what I'm getting is gonna really be great for Indigo Girls 'cause now, you know, when my amp blows, I'm not like, 'Hey can you come fix this?' It's like, 'That's cool, I'll do it myself,' you know, which is fun."
Stag was released earlier this month on Ray's own Daemon Records. Of the album, Ray says, "I would say our approach to music is never intellectual. It's just this passion and this ability to create something together as a group."
