(7/30/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- The St. Lunatics debut album, Free City, was recently certified platinum for sales of a million copies while group member Nelly's solo effort, Country Grammar, has sold 7 million copies to date. The group is currently out on the TRL tour with Nelly as they prepare forthcoming solo offerings from members Ali and Murphy Lee. One of the surprises that can be found on the St. Lunatics' Free City is "Groovin' Tonight" featuring Brian McKnight.
LAUNCH recently spoke with McKnight, who explained how the collaboration occurred. "The label called and they were, like, 'St. Lunatics, Nelly, blah, blah, blah, blee, blee, blee. Can you sing?' I said, 'Cool, no problem.' Sang. I didn't think about it again for six months," he said. "My record is almost done and their records come outs, people are, like, 'What is this Brian McKnight track on the St. Lunatics? What is it? What's it gonna be? Where's it gonna go?' So I was, like, 'OK, why should they just benefit from having it on their record?' so I put it on my record, too. It's really nothing more than that. It's cool, though."
