(6/5/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- U2, Sugar Ray, and Destiny's Child are among the talent lined up for halftime of the NBA Finals between the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers, which kicks off tonight (June 6). U2 will be in the middle of its set at Boston's Fleet Center when the basketball telecast will go live to the band's performance of its new single, "Elevation."
Finals games two and three will feature a special edition of the NBC game show Weakest Link, but music will return for games four and five. Destiny's Child is set to perform "Survivor" and "Bootylicious" during halftime of game four on June 13, and Sugar Ray will perform its new single "When Its Over" during game five, if necessary, on June 15.
Sugar Ray bassist Murphy Karges is following both the NBA and National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs. Karges is picking the Lakers to win it in basketball. In hockey he says it'll be the New Jersey Devils, who are up on the Colorado Avalanche three games to two in the Stanley Cup finals. The potential series deciding game six is Wednesday (June 6).
Karges explained why the Devils will repeat as champs. "Well, because they're just so freaking boring and skilled and amazing," he said. "They're just so good defensively. They kick your ass. They're like, they're fired up."
