(4/19/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- The Allman Brothers Band has set the first leg of its 2001: The Odyssey Goes On Forever tour. The shows begin June 15 at the Oak Mountain Amphitheatre in Pelham, Alabama, and the current itinerary has the group on the road until August 10, with at least 19 more dates expected to be added shortly.
This year's Allman Brothers Band lineup features new/old guitarist Warren Haynes, who rejoins the Allmans after the group's sold-out March run at the Beacon Theatre in New York. Haynes and Allmans bassist Allen Woody left the Allman Brothers Band in 1997 to concentrate on their group Gov't Mule, but Woody's death last year has allowed Haynes to return to the fold.
LAUNCH asked lead singer and keyboardist Gregg Allman if certain songs come off better in concert than others. "Well, there's always gonna be some of 'em that come off stronger than others," he said. "'Whipping Post' and 'Blue Sky' and stuff like that are gonna come off real good just about every time. But we've got some other ones like 'Nobody Left To Run With,' which shows all the people in the business we've known that have passed away. We show 'em on the screen to the light show. That comes off real good."
The Allman Brothers Band itinerary (subject to change):
June 15 - Pelham, AL - Oak Mountain Amphitheatre
June 16 - Antioch, TN - AmSouth Amphitheatre
June 17 - Louisville, KY - Louisville Motor Speedway
June 19 - Poughkeepsie, NY - Mid-Hudson Civic Center
