(12/12/00, 3 p.m. ET) - Because he was the first rapper to release an album on Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records, some fans thought Memphis Bleek was the heir to Jay-Z's throne. But Bleek, whose second album, The Understanding, arrived in stores December 5, said that is not the case.
"People have been comparing me to Hova, like I'm supposed to take Jay's throne," Bleek told LAUNCH. "It's not about that. I'm not writing raps saying I want to be the next Jay-Z. I'm writing raps just to be successful. It's not about being Jay-Z. It's about being Bleek."
Bleek shot the video for the second single from The Understanding, "Do My...," in Los Angeles recently. The clip features professional basketball players Lisa Leslie, Teresa Weatherspoon, and Chamique Holdsclam, as well as professional tennis player Serena Williams.
