Gang Starr Has Total 'Discipline'

(8/9/99, 1 a.m. PDT) - The seminal hip-hop duo of Guru and DJ Premier, better known as Gang Starr, recently released their greatest-hits collection, Full Clip: A Decade Of Gang Starr.

Full Clip is a 32-song, double-CD collection of the classic singles, remixes, and rare B-sides from the group's 10-year history. The set has three brand-new tracks, including the current single, "Discipline," featuring Total.

Although DJ Premier has worked with a host of hardcore hip-hoppers in the past, he didn't have any reservations about working with the R&B trio. During a recent interview, production whiz kid DJ Premier, born Christopher Martin, talked about cutting the group's current single.

"We got a joint we did with Total called 'Discipline.' We always make at least one radio record, because that's part of the game. Not that we have to do that, but when we make radio records, we make our own version of it. We always do it where we don't cross the line, but we just step to the line. The song that we did with Total does the same thing."

Gang Starr is currently on tour with Everlast, the Roots, and Macy Gray.
