(8/6/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Singer-songwriter Chante Moore may have a hit on her hands with "Chante's Got A Man," but her old record label is no more. Veteran R&B music mogul Louil Silas recently assumed a post as a head honcho of LaFace Records. Silas founded and owned Silas Records, the label that released Moore's latest album, This Moment Is Mine, along with albums from artists such as Jesse Powell, London Jones, and Aaron Hall. The label was distributed via MCA Records.

According to sources at MCA, Silas hasn't been associated with the major label for close to a year and Moore is signed directly to MCA. Although album packaging of This Moment Is Mine reflects an association with Silas, the logo was only added due to contractual obligations.

As the senior VP of LaFace, Silas will focus on new projects from Toni Braxton and Donell Jones. Nonetheless, Moore still feels a special closeness to Silas. "He's committed to me and for me," she said in a recent interview. "Not committed to me as my man, but committed to me as Chante Moore the artist...He fought really hard just to make what's happening happen. And I think it was somewhat difficult being a subsidiary of MCA, but I think he's very passionate, very driven, very sure of Chante Moore the artist. And that's invaluable to me."
