(3/10/99, 1 p.m. PST) - After recently ending its relationship with Capitol Records, longtime underground rock heroes the Butthole Surfers have entered into a licensing agreement with Web-based custom CD company CDuctive for some of its back catalog. Under the deal, CDuctive will make material from the band's first four albums--1985's Psychic, Powerless...Another Man's Sac, 1986's Rembrandt Pussyhorse, 1987's Locust Abortion Technician, and 1988's Hairway To Steven--available for inclusion on custom CDs. Also included in the deal is the Surfers' 1989 Double Live album. All of the titles included in the pact, originally issued on the Touch & Go label, are out of print. New Surfers material, however, isn't part of the CDuctive deal. The band completed an album last year titled After The Astronaut, which was reportedly tame compared to its previous efforts. However, the album was not released by Capitol and the band subsequently split with the label. CDuctive has quietly built up an impressive catalog of tracks available for inclusion of custom CDs. The company has signed licensing agreements with more than 200 labels from the U.S. and Europe, and features music from a wide spectrum of talent including Aphex Twin, Green Day, Hole, Mary Lou Lord, Mix Master Mike, Pere Ubu, Elliott Smith, Tone Loc, and Cardinal. Features on the Butthole Surfers, Green Day, Mary Lou Lord, and Elliott Smith are available now on LAUNCH.com. Got news tips, comments, or questions? Send them to newstips@launch.com.
