Alien Ant Farm Stays Down To Earth As 'Anthology' Rises

(8/31/01, 7 a.m. ET) -- Alien Ant Farm is riding the success of its Michael Jackson cover, "Smooth Criminal." The band's album, Anthology, is up to Number 11 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The band will also play MTV's pre-Video Music Awards program on September 6.
Singer Dryden Mitchell told LAUNCH it's important to him that the band's fans don't feel intimidated by the group. "We take music really seriously. Everything else we don't take seriously," he said. "Even our live performance. I mean I'm sure we want to play well, but we act like total...just whatever. We don't want to be an intimidating band. We don't come like, 'Hey we're going to f--k sh-t up today.' We come from a totally different place. We just want to have fun and we're a very approachable, like I said, non-intimidating band. I think when kids see us they want to come up and talk rather than like, see a band and feel like they can't come up and say anything for whatever reason. I hate that."
Alien Ant Farm is set to perform "Smooth Criminal" on the Tonight Show With Jay Leno on September 17.
