(1/23/01, 5 p.m. ET) - Capone-N-Noreaga may be heading to Def Jam Recordings after releasing two albums with Tommy Boy Records, according to published reports. The New York-based duo's recording contract with Tommy Boy reportedly expired upon the release of its second album, 2000's The Reunion, which has sold more than 303,000 copies, according to industry sources.
A spokesperson for Tommy Boy Records said she was unsure of the group's status with the label, although she conceded that they are searching for a new recording home.
Calls seeking comment from Def Jam were not returned by press time.
Capone-N-Noreaga's first album, The War Report, was released in 1997. Noreaga embarked upon a solo career when Capone was incarcerated in 1997. Both of Noreaga's two albums, 1998's N.O.R.E. and 1999's Melvin Flynt - Da Hustla, were certified gold for sales of half a million copies.
