(3/30/00, 1 p.m. ET) - Vertical Horizon's breakout single, "Everything You Want," continues to grab the ear of fans, creeping up Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks and Hot 100 charts. But exposure for the Boston band wasn't always so extensive. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Scannell recalls the first time he heard a song from their major-label debut Everything You Want on the radio. It was "We Are," the first single from the album, and Scannell tells LAUNCH that he made the moment into a family affair. "I was sitting in my parents' driveway in my mom's car; I'd gone up to visit for a couple days, and I started the car, turned it on, and I heard 'We Are' blasting on one of the biggest radio stations in Boston," he recalls. "That meant something. That was an incredible moment for me and I went into the house screaming, 'Mom,' you know, 'Get out here, come on!' She sat down in the car and we listened to it." Scannell adds, "To have that song going through the airwaves all around my hometown was just an incredible feeling." -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles Got news tips, comments, or questions?
