Beenie Man Unleashes 'Tropical Storm'
08/20/2002 1:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Brett Anderson
(8/20/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Beenie Man's Tropical Storm is out today (August 20), and the album's release marks the Grammy-winning Jamaican singer's 24th year in the music business. Beenie Man, who turns 29 on Thursday (August 22), has been performing since he was 5 years old.
Beenie says his early start in the business was partly inspired by his childhood friendship with Jimmy Cliff, the legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter/actor who worked with Beenie's uncle Sydney Wolf, a professional drummer.
Beenie told LAUNCH, "I was influenced by Jimmy Cliff. He was the one I knew as a superstar as a kid. He used to come lift me up and say, 'What going man? Everything alright? Ya, going to school?' He was my hero."
