Rob Zombie To Use Beer To Hype Horror Flick

(8/20/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Rob Zombie will use beer to help promote his upcoming horror film, House Of A 1000 Corpses, which premieres October 15 in Los Angeles. Zombie will hook up with Pete's Brewing Company, makers of Pete's Wicked Ale, for the Halloween-tinged "The Wicked Will Get You!" promotion, which will feature six-foot-tall cut-outs of the ghoulish rocker with eyes that "watch you" as you cross the beer display in participating stores.
The promotion will also include a contest at the beer-maker's website (peteswicked.com) in which winners will be flown to Los Angeles to meet Zombie and attend the movie's premiere.
The actual premise to the long-in-the-works film is something Zombie has avoided explaining in detail. However, if it included Zombie's own fears, there a good chance sharks would be involved. "I don't like sharks and everyone thinks it's funny," he says. "But it's not."
He tells LAUNCH about one experience in Mexico. "We're on this boat (and someone says), 'Oh, jump in the water, let's go swimming.' And I'm, like, 'I don't know, you know, the sun's going down, this is shark time.' But I did anyway and I was in the water for about a minute, and I was, like, 'F--k this, I'm getting out of the water.' And then, half-an-hour later we're on the beach eating lunch and I looked and I saw a f--king shark in the water. And I was, like, 'Yep, see. Everyone laughs, laughs until the leg comes off and then it ain't so funny.'"
House Of 1000 Corpses is being released through Lion's Gate Entertainment. There is currently no information on national distribution for the film.
