(7/9/02, 3 p.m. ET) - Travis drummer Neil Primose was seriously injured in a swimming pool accident and the band has now cancelled its European tour dates.

According to a statement issued by the band's management, the 30-year-old Scotsman was relaxing in the pool and struck his head and was knocked unconcious. "After realizing his predicament, other band and crew members dragged Neil from the pool and gave him assistance," the statement said.

Primrose was taken by ambulance to a local hospital in Belfort, France, to receive treatment and undergo tests. Doctors report he's sustained a fracture on one of his vertebrae and he is still in a hospital in France undergoing additional tests.

Travis had wrapped up several appearances at European festivals, including a performance at the Belfort festival this past Sunday, July 7.

The band has now cancelled what were to be upcoming concerts in Lucca, Italy (July 15); Rome (July 16); Les Vieilles Charrues Festival, France (July 19); and Dublin Marlay Park, Ireland (July 21).

The band's statement posted on its official website also says, "We wish to apologize to all our fans for any inconvenience caused, but hope you will join us in wishing Neil a full and speedy recovery."

This past April, Primrose lived a childhood dream when he raced in the 2002 Autosport Ford Ka Championship.
