Sisqo On The Grammys, Dru Hill, And New Projects
01/04/2001 4:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(1/4/01, 4 p.m. ET) - R&B star Sisqo received four Grammy nods when the nominees for the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards were announced on Tuesday (January 3). The singer was nominated for best male R&B vocal performance and best R&B song for "Thong Song," best R&B album for Unleash The Dragon, and best new artist.
Sisqo told LAUNCH he was somewhat surprised at his good fortune. "I was expecting to get nominated for at least one, but the whole four thing is cool. And I'm considering this is my fourth year in music professionally, but my first time getting nominated for a Grammy, so I'm excited but I'm trying to chill, though. I don't want to get too excited, 'cause it's a nomination."
Sisqo has been busy during the downtime between albums. The singer told LAUNCH he is currently working on a sitcom and recently completed a film. "I have a new movie coming out soon--a Miramax film called Get Over It. I'm also 'bout to go into production with my television sitcom on NBC. I'm about to go into production on my new movie that I just got signed onto with Cuba Gooding Jr., and I have a new song coming out on Chris Rock. . .the title song to Chris Rock's new movie. I'm sorry I don't know the name of it. I saw clips of it. It was funny."
With all of Sisqo's new projects, many fans may be concerned that a Dru Hill reunion may never take place. However, according to Sisqo, the group--which had previously attempted to record a new album, but to no avail--is a little bit closer to making it happen: "Dru Hill's future doesn't look as bleak as it did about three months ago. I think we've all grown musically as well as emotionally, physically, mentally, and I think the future of Dru Hill is looking a lot brighter this month than it was, like, four months ago."
