(8/22/00, 1 p.m. ET) - The new album from Wyclef Jean, The Ecleftic--2 Sides II A Book, features Earth, Wind & Fire on the track "Runaway." The relationship between Earth, Wind & Fire and Wyclef goes back a few years, to when the Fugees member was producing the rap group Sunz Of Man on its cover version of EWF's "Shining Star." The session took place in Maurice White's California studio, and the members of Earth, Wind & Fire were on hand for the session, leading to a lasting friendship with Wyclef. Lead singer Philip Bailey told LAUNCH those initial sessions have led to bigger and better things. "That's how we met," Bailey recalled. "And then later, we did a couple of songs--one for an Eddie Murphy movie, Life, and one for that animated film which Wyclef was working on. So we worked on those things with him, and that's how the relationship started." The animation project Bailey is referring to is Murphy's TV show The PJ's. Also, Jean has produced some of the music for Earth, Wind & Fire's upcoming album, which is due out next year. -- Bruce Simon and Lucy Tauss, New York Got news tips, comments, or questions?
