'Unpopular' Bosstones OK With Barrett

(5/29/00, 10 a.m. ET) - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' sixth studio album, Pay Attention, clocks in at Number 154 on this week's Billboard 200, down 80 spots from its debut and peak at 74 just two weeks earlier. Whether the album is deemed a disappointment as a follow-up to the band's breakout hit, 1997's Let's Face It, remains to be seen. However, frontman Dicky Barrett tells LAUNCH that such worries are beyond him. "Where we get our joy and where we get, you know, our kicks is going around from city to city, getting up in front of people, performing the songs we created, having them be excited about it, thank you very much goodnight, and then going on to the next city," he says. "And that's what we've done for years. We've been the unpopular Bosstones longer than we were ever the popular Bosstones. So, we're better at that. So if we're no longer the popular Bosstones, fine, you know? It's back to being, you know, what we've always been." Barrett also jokes about how sudden fame can seemingly distort a band's history. "Some people even think this is our second album," he says. -- Neal Weiss, Los Angeles
