Ashley Judd and 'Entertainment Tonight' Sued By Journalist

(5/24/00, 3 p.m. ET) - Freelance journalist Larry Birkhead is suing actress Ashley Judd and the television show Entertainment Tonight over allegedly libelous statements he says were made regarding an article he wrote for USA Today.

The writer, who is from Ashley's native state of Kentucky, penned an article about the actress's famous mother, Naomi Judd of The Judds , which was printed last August. Birkhead asked Naomi about Ashley's appearance in the R-rated movie Double Jeopardy, to which Naomi had no comment. Ashley subsequently appeared on Entertainment Tonight and contradicted the article, saying it was a "complete fabrication" and that her mother gave her "total enthusiastic response to the film."
