Neal McCoy Gives New Label And Music A Shot

(2/29/00, 12 p.m. ET) - Neal McCoy is in Music City this week to participate in Country Radio Seminar 2000. The seminar, held every year in Nashville, is an opportunity for entertainers and country radio executives across the country to meet and discuss issues and trends affecting the music industry. McCoy recently parted ways with Atlantic Records after a partnership that produced eight projects (Life Of The Party, Be Good At It, Greatest Hits, Neal McCoy, You Gotta Love That, No Doubt About It, Where Forever Begins and At This Moment). He sat down with LAUNCH and talked about his decision to leave the label. "We weren't getting the attention I thought we should get, and maybe rightfully so," McCoy said. "We just weren't a very hot act anymore. We had gone a couple three years without having a big hit, for whatever reason. You know, who knows? Maybe it was me or just the records weren't any good or whatever. It just wasn't working." McCoy has now signed on to the Giant Records roster and is gearing up to release a new album on that label this summer. His new single, titled "Forever Works For Me," will arrive at radio stations on March 13. Many of McCoy's die-hard fans are glad to finally hear some new music, and have long felt that the singer has been largely underestimated as an artist. "Yeah, very much so. I'm sure not the best singer out there," McCoy said. "There are a lot of great singers. But from an entertainment standpoint, we may not be the best there either - but we are dang good. That's just the way it is. We are just very good at entertaining people because that is what I do. That is what I want to do. When I take to the stage I just don't have me in mind. I don't have me and my band in mind, how good we are going play, how good the audio is going sound, how good somebody is going pick. I have that audience in mind. I am going entertain you no matter what it takes, and I am going give you 100% every night." Look for McCoy to perform on TNN's Manilow Country special on April 11, along with Trisha Yearwood, Deana Carter, Jo Dee Messina, Lorrie Morgan, Kevin Sharp, and Lila McCann. -- Jennifer Gerlock, Nashville
