Jagged Edge's Brandon Dedicates 'Without You' To His Father

(8/15/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- Jagged Edge's "Where's The Party At" featuring Nelly moved up a couple of notches on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart last week to Number Two. But the infectious, club-friendly song doesn't involve as much special meaning to group member Brandon Casey as the song "Without You," which Brandon dedicates to his father.
Brandon, whose twin brother Brian is also in the platinum group, says his father encouraged him to write poetry when he was a teenager. Brandon told LAUNCH that his father gave him the advice when he sought suggestions on how to get the attention of a girl.
"When I was younger, I guess I was not so easy with the words, and I went to him and asked him, you know, 'How do I talk to this girl.' And I guess when he was younger, he had the same problem. So he was like, 'You know, when I was younger, I used to write poetry.' I was like, 'Man! That was back in the day. People don't do stuff like that no more.' He was like, 'I'm telling you, it'll work, it'll work.' So I just sent that song out to him because when I was writing that song, I was trying to capture that same type--not poetry like in the deep sense of it, you know what I mean, not Langston Hughes, but just playful. So I just sent that song out to him," Brandon said.
