(8/15/01, 3 p.m. ET) -- A creative brainstorm has delayed Powerman 5000's forthcoming album, Anyone For Doomsday?, until late this year or early 2002. The band has created several new songs, and band mastermind Spider One felt it would have been a disservice to fans not to put them on Anyone For Doomsday?, which was originally set for an August 28 release.
The delay puts a damper on Powerman 5000's planned fall tour, but Spider One promised that it would be worth the wait while offering apologies to those affected by the band's changed plans.
"In the end you have to go with your gut, and I know we're making the right decision," said Spider One in a statement. "At the same time I want to extend my apologies to all the bands who were set to tour with us this fall: Saliva, Machinehead, Halfcocked, and Stereomud. We know we have wreaked havoc on their schedules and hope to tour with them at some point in the future. We also want to express our sincerest apologies to the fans who were counting on the August 28 release as well as everyone that bought tickets to the early shows that went on sale. We'll see everyone soon."
Refunds are available for the shows at the point of purchase. A spokesperson for Powerman 5000 said the band hopes to have Anyone For Doomsday? out before the end of the year, but there's a chance it could be pushed until early next year.
Meanwhile, Powerman 5000's first single, "Bombshell," will be featured on the soundtrack for Tough Enough, which is due out October 2.
