(6/22/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- One of the highlights from last year's tribute album Stoned Immaculate: The Music Of The Doors was the pairing of late Doors frontman Jim Morrison and John Lee Hooker, who died Thursday (June 21) (LAUNCH, 6/21), on "Roadhouse Blues."
Guitarist Robby Krieger told LAUNCH that the track only became a duet between Hooker and Morrison after the blues legend decided to do things his way.
"They asked him if he wanted to do it different. He said, 'No, no, let's do it the same way, you know? I like that version.' So we did it very similar to the original, so he would be able to sing it easily, right? So, he just couldn't seem to come in at the right time, you know? He, he would always be late! He'd be, like, four bars late on every thing! We said, 'Well, we could move him into the right place, you know? Or, we could get one of Jim's old vocals and stick it in the right place, and then it would sound like John was kind of answering him,' which it did turn out to be like that, and it came out pretty good," Krieger said.
