(11/1/00, 7 a.m. ET) - Sisqo, Boyz II Men, Lucy Pearl's Raphael Saadiq, and country star Dwight Yoakam were among the artists on hand at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to announce that next year's Grammy Awards will return to the venue for the second year in a row. The date for the event, the 43rd Annual, will be February 21.
Sisqo told LAUNCH that his motives for being at the mid-day press conference in downtown Los Angeles were two-fold. "Today I'm basically here in support of the Grammy," he said. "OK, I'm kissing a little ass, trying to secure my Grammy spot. I'm looking for the best new artist, and I hope I get it."
Academy President/CEO Michael Greene offered some words of encouragement to Sisqo. "I shouldn't say this, but we are just going through the entries, and I got to tell you, looking across [potential] best new artist nominations, if anybody wants to take that bet, I would make it, because this guy is amazing."
Others in attendance included classic rocker Eddie Money, R&B producer Shep Crawford, and Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
This will be the third consecutive year that the prestigious event will be held in Los Angeles.
