Sisqo Says Dru Hill's Next Album In Jeopardy
10/31/2000 7:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Craig Rosen
(10/31/00, 7 p.m. ET) - The speculation about the future of Dru Hill continues with the latest comments from lead singer and multiplatinum solo artist Sisqo.
The platinum-tressed singer said that members of the Baltimore-based group-- which includes Woody, Nokio, and Jazz--had a major argument that will prevent the completion of their long-awaited third album. Their last release was Enter The Dru in 1998.
Appearing at the Recording Academy's press conference today (October 31) to announce the location and date of the Grammy Awards, Sisqo told LAUNCH, "For the Dru Hill project that we were gearing up to do, [there are] some shocking new developments, and typical drama, same old same old. Normally what happens with a group when they try to do what we're trying to do, it's got some friction, so I don't know if it's gonna happen now."
Asked to elaborate on the argument, Sisqo would say only, "Probably be in bad taste right now, considering it just happened last night. I'm pretty sure you'll hear about it."
Dru Hill"s future has been debated since Sisqo recorded his solo project Unleash The Dragon, which has sold more than 3 million copies since its release. But Sisqo and fellow Dru Hill members continued to deny breakup rumors, saying that solo projects for each of the members was part of the group"s long-term expansion plans. In fact, the group's Woody recorded an inspirational album that included cameos by other Dru Hill members; the project was originally set for release in 1999 but was scuttled by Island Records' absorption into the Def Jam label.
As recently as September, Sisqo told LAUNCH that the next Dru Hill album would be postponed until his second solo disc is released.
Representatives of Def Jam would say only that a Dru Hill album is indeed scheduled for the first quarter of next year. There was no comment on a second Sisqo album.
