Fleetwood Mac Brings Back Song From 'The Dance' On New Album

(4/18/03, 12 p.m. ET) -- All 18 songs on Fleetwood Mac's new album Say You Will are fresh recordings, but one is not new. The Lindsey Buckingham-written track "Bleed To Love Her" first appeared on the 1997 live album The Dance and was performed on the group's reunion tour that year.
Buckingham said he began working on the song prior to The Dance, when he was making his fourth solo album with help from drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. "That was a song everyone liked and wanted to do, and still wanted to do," Buckingham said. "I was actually not sure that we should do it, but (Warner Bros. Records President) Tom Whalley thought it was a great song, and thought it was not relevant that it had been on a live album. And so it just sort of made its way, in exactly the form that it existed, that people reacted to, which got it onto The Dance album in the first place."
Buckingham added that he's happier with "Bleed To Love Her" as a studio track. "I was never much of a fan of the way it came off live," Buckingham said.
Fleetwood Mac kicks off a tour to promote Say You Will on May 7 in Columbus, Ohio.
