Fleetwood Mac's Buckingham Prefers 'Say You Will' To 'The Dance'

(4/24/03, 7 a.m. ET) -- Although the new Fleetwood Mac album Say You Will is being ballyhooed as guitarist Lindsey Buckingham's first studio outing with the band since the 1987 album Tango In The Night, he's actually been back with the band since 1997. That was the year that Fleetwood Mac regrouped for The Dance, an MTV special that turned into a live album and reunion tour.
Buckingham said he enjoyed making Say You Will, a set of all-new material, more than doing The Dance. "Really, The Dance was just a money-making venture," Buckingham said. "It was a good live album, and it maybe was the catalyst on an emotional level for all of this. But it was just the restatement of a body of work. So I was, you know, it wasn't my ideal thing."
Say You Will features four-fifths of Fleetwood Mac's most successful lineup--Buckingham, singer Stevie Nicks, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie. Singer-keyboardist Christine McVie left the group after The Dance tour.
A studio recording of one song from The Dance, "Bleed To Love Her," is featured on Say You Will.
Fleetwood Mac kicks off a tour in support of the new album on May 7 in Columbus, Ohio.
