R. Kelly, P. Diddy, Isleys, O'Jays, Gap Band At Detroit Music Festival

(4/30/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- R. Kelly, P. Diddy, Ronald Isley and the Isley Brothers, Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly, India.Arie, the O'Jays, the Four Tops, the Whispers, the Temptations, and the Gap Band are the acts announced for the third annual Detroit Music Festival, set for August 1 and 2 at Comerica Park.
The lineup was recently announced at a special press conference that also revealed the Detroit Music Festival's partnership with the Cincinnati Music Festival.
That popular July event was cancelled in 2002 due to ongoing civic unrest and boycotts following the fatal shooting of an unarmed African-American man by Cincinnati police in April of 2001. The festival eventually lost its long-running Coors sponsorship. Organizers announced plans to move the Cincinnati festival to downtown Detroit in February of this year.
More artists are expected to be added to the DMF's two-day festivities. A number of field tickets will be available for free to military personnel. Tickets go on sale May 2. More info is available at detroitmusicfestival.net.
Detroit Music Festival organizers are also encouraging attendees to take part in a stunt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest total number of people participating in a line dance.
