Deftones Announce European Tour
06/04/2001 3:00 PM, Yahoo! Music Darren Davis
(6/4/01, 3 p.m. ET) -- The Deftones will head to Europe to play festivals just prior to the band's U.S. tour with Godsmack, which starts July 12 in Spokane, Washington. The highlight of the European trek, which begins in Wholen, Switzerland on June 22, will be the group's first visit to Russia, where they will headline a gig at famed Gorky Park on June 26.
At various points during the overseas shows singer Chino Moreno and crew will also play with Limp Bizkit, Tool, the Black Crowes, Godsmack, the Offspring, and Alanis Morissette.
Deftones DJ Frank Delgado tells LAUNCH that there's nothing in the States that compares to the European festivals. "Oh, they're overboard. Music in general, even DJ culture over there, it's just so far blown than what it is here. I mean, you've got to imagine these countries having these festivals for the last 30 or so years," he says. "I mean, imagine being a kid growing up in a household where every year you went to these festivals where you could see Bob Dylan, [Smashing] Pumpkins... I mean, we actually came on before Bob Dylan at one of these festivals and then [Jimmy] Page and [Robert] Plant or something. Like, it's amazing, like, you can't do that here in the States, you know what I mean?"
