Travis To Play Free Shows In California To Celebrate Release

(6/1/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- Travis will celebrate the June 12 release of its new album, The Invisible Band, with a free performance at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens that same day while offering a similar opportunity two days later (June 14) outside the Virgin Records store down south in West Hollywood. Tickets are available to a limited number of fans who are the first to purchase the album when it goes on sale at Music 101 in San Francisco and Virgin Records in Los Angeles.
As well, the first 75 fans to The Invisible Band at the respective retail outlets in both cities will receive tickets to see Travis and Dido during their local tour stops later in the week.
The Invisible Band, Travis's third album, is a much-anticipated arrival by the British guitar-rock outfit. Frontman Fran Healy tells LAUNCH that the effort captures the group's natural progression beyond its 1999 album, The Man Who. "If a band's growing like a child would grow, it's exactly like that. You know, you can't force yourself to grow, you know, you can't say, 'Right, I'm gonna be 4 foot 11 in a year's time.' You just grow naturally," he says. "Your hair grows, your fingernails grow, your teeth grow, you get taller, you start growing a beard eventually, your voice breaks, all that kind of stuff. And it all happens organically and naturally, and it's not forced. And I think that's exactly how we're gonna come on now."
Travis's stint as the support act for Dido's North American tour kicks off June 10 in Vancouver.
