(2/2/01, 6 p.m. ET) - A Big Punisher mural will be painted by hip-hop graffiti artists the Tats Crew on 163rd Street and Intervale Boulevard in New York Tuesday (February 6).
The painting will commemorate the first anniversary of the Bronx rapper's death. Big Punisher died last year of heart failure. His second album, Yeeeah Baby, was also released in 2000. It has sold more than 700,000 copies, according to industry sources.
Last year a Big Pun mural was painted at the same location. The older painting will be whitewashed in order for the new mural to replace it.
Big Punisher was the first solo Latino rapper to earn a platinum album. He achieved the feat with his debut album, 1998's Capital Punishment.
Endangered Species, an album of Pun's hits as well as some unreleased material, is expected to be released later this year.
