(12/15/97) - Charles Koppelman, the man who gave the world Vanilla Ice, Wilson Phillips and Jon Secada during his long career in the business, is set to resurface in the music business, according to sources. Koppelman, dismissed earlier this year as EMI Music Group North America chairman (reportedly with a $50 million buyout), will obtain funding for a new music company--allegedly to be named with his initials, CAK--through insurance giant Prudential. He will also partner with an established music business entity for distribution and marketing. Koppelman's three-decade career includes work with the Lovin' Spoonful, Barbra Streisand and Tracy
Chapman, among others. He was one of the founders of SBK Records, which was absorbed into EMI a few years ago.
