Black Eyed Peas Reach Number Three With Macy Gray Collab

(3/26/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- The Black Eyed Peas entered Billboard's rap singles charts at Number Three last week with its song "Request Line" featuring Macy Gray. Peas member Will.I.Am says the group did not feature Gray on the song because of her celebrity status. Gray actually appeared on the Peas' 1998 debut Behind The Front on the song "Love Won't Wait," which was released a year before Gray's On How Life Is.
"It wasn't like Macy Gray blew up, and we said, 'We should get her back on the album, maybe we could win some of her fans," Will.I.Am told LAUNCH. "But really, a lot of it is, her fans--they're not our core audience."
"Request Line" is the second single from the Black Eyed Peas' sophomore album Bridging The Gap, released last September.
