Hootie Drives Golf Tournament To New Location

(2/2/01, 7 a.m. ET) - Amateur golfers-professional rockers Hootie & the Blowfish have moved their annual Monday After The Masters Celebrity Pro-Am Golf Tournament to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, from its previous home in Columbia, South Carolina. The event, which will take place April 9 on the Kiawah Island Resorts Ocean Course, will also feature golfing musicians from Creed, Sister Hazel, and Bon Jovi, as well as Edwin McCain.

Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker told LAUNCH that the tourney is more than just fun and games. "The mere fact that ESPN shows it means it a success. We've raised so much money for charities," he adds, "and besides that, we made so many people in Columbia and around South Carolina happy."

The band's manager, Rusty Harmon, said in a statement, "We are a bit sentimental about the move from Columbia, the band's hometown, but it gives us an opportunity to create awareness on a higher level than before. The more awareness our tournament receives, the more money we are able to raise for our chosen charities."

The tournament has donated more than $1.3 million to the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and the Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation over the past six years.

Professional golfers set to play in this year's tournament include John Daly, Jay Hass, Matt Kuchar, Chris DiMarco, Garrett Willis, Peter Jacobsen, Gary McCord, Peter Kostis, Franklin Langham, and Rory Sabbatini. Other confirmed celebrities include Dan Marino, ESPN's Dan Patrick and Stuart Scott, Bryan Cox, Charles Barkley, Jim McMahon, and Bruce Jenner.

Following the tournament, the Blowfish will perform a concert with special guests at the Gaillard Auditorium in Charleston, South Carolina. Tickets to the tournament and concert go on sale March 3 and are priced at $15 and $35, respectively.
