(12/11/00, 3 p.m. ET) - Cypress Hill's first live album, Live At The Fillmore, is expected to arrive in stores Tuesday (December 12). The album features Cypress Hill performing selections from its studio albums as well as songs it contributed to soundtracks.
The album was recorded August 16 at the Fillmore in San Francisco. Cypress Hill is backed by SX-10, a rap-rock group fronted by Cypress Hill's Sen Dog, on nine of the album's 17 songs, including renditions of "Checkmate," "I Ain't Goin' Out Like That," and "(Rock) Superstar."
Even though rappers have been releasing recorded music since 1979, there are only two notable live rap albums other than the Cypress Hill release. The first is Boogie Down Productions' Live, Hardcore Worldwide, which was released in 1991. Unlike the Cypress Hill album, the BDP album was recorded during multiple performances in Paris, London, and New York City and featured material from BDP's first four albums.
The other notable live hip-hop album is the Roots' The Roots Come Alive, which was released in 1999. Recorded largely in Europe, it featured the band playing mostly selections from its 1999 studio album, Things Fall Apart.
