Joe Makes A Name For Himself At Number Two

Craig Rosen

(4/26/00, 5 p.m. ET) - Joe's new album, My Name Is Joe, debuts at Number Two on the Billboard 200 albums chart this week (LAUNCH, 4/26). Of his third effort, Joe says the only way this album differs from his previous outings is in the production. Joe did the majority of the production work on his earlier albums, but this time he worked with Teddy Riley on his song "Stutter" and with Sheks'pere Briggs on the song "Get Crunk Tonight."

Joe tells LAUNCH about the differences on his new album. "The difference, I think, is really just the outside producers and what they had to bring to the table. Like Teddy Riley and Sheks'pere -- they came with something definitely really, really good for the album."

Joe says this is the first time he's ever stuttered on a record, and he does it on the appropriately titled track "Stutter." Joe explains, "It was written by my man Bishop from Chicago. That song was produced by Teddy and it's called 'Stutter,' which is the first record that I've ever stuttered. I actually stutter on a record, and it's a song about being in a relationship with a someone and finding out that they're really -- basically -- cheating, and I can tell she's lying because she's stuttering."
