Hoobastank Happy To Tour With 'Big Brothers' 311

(3/29/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- With the hit single "Crawling In The Dark," Hoobastank may be getting more airplay these days than tourmates 311, but the group is still grateful for the chance to open for one of its favorite bands.
Guitarist Dan Estrin told LAUNCH before the tour's New York show on Thursday (March 28) how the stint with 311 is going so far. "The entire band and their crew treat us very, very well. We're still a very new touring band and they don't bust our balls in any way. They're just really friendly, and it's cool."
Estrin told LAUNCH, "It's really cool. I feel like we have some big brothers, you know?"
Singer Doug Robb added, "It's cool just because we were such big fans of theirs in high school."
Estrin continued, "In 1992 is when I first found out about 311. I remember going to see them out in Hollywood at the Whisky and the Roxy, which are fairly small venues to see a band like 311. But back then they couldn't play anywhere bigger than that. Doug and I would go sneak into their shows and hang out with the guys. I had their posters on my wall. They were an influence, definitely."
Hoobastank will be on the road with 311 until April 10, and then the next day (April 11) Robb, Estrin, and the rest of the band hop on the Incubus Honda Civic Tour.
