Pantera's Anselmo Not A Fan Of Nu-Metal & Creed

(3/28/02, 1 p.m. ET) -- Pantera and Down frontman Phil Anselmo is not exactly a fan of the nu-metal scene, especially rap-metal.
The outspoken frontman said in a statement released by his record company, Elektra, "F--k music today. I don't listen to that. When I listen to music I listen to stuff from 20, 30 years ago. You're not going to catch me listening to any modern bands today in my genre, the genre that I helped create. When you f--king do Pantera riffs and rap over the top of it and jump up and down, you're not going to impress me with that. I'm sorry, but you're not going to."
Anselmo then took a shot at Creed. "A band like Creed, to me, needs to be taken to f--king court and sued over their blatant, pathetic goddamn robbery of Pearl Jam."
Down, which features Anselmo's bandmate Rex Brown, and Corrosion Of Conformity's Pepper Keenan among others, released its new album, Down II, on Tuesday (March 26).
Brown told LAUNCH that the '70s-style hard rock of Down is liberating, and he discussed expectations for the album. "We're not putting it out for people not to hear it, you know? Number one, Pantera sold a f--kin' s--tload of records, you know? One of the top f--kin' metal bands of the '90s, if not at the top. And this is just as good for creative...to be on the creative side of it. It gives you a little f--kin' fresh air to do something different and not have to rely on that mighty 'P' word. We just do this to have f--kin' fun and to jam. And if it sells f--kin' 10 records or it sells 10 million, with the finished product we'll all be the same. It won't matter."
