(7/29/99, 4 p.m. PDT) - Reggae star Beenie Man, born Moses Davis, and three of his bandmates were busted on Wednesday (July 28) in Virginia Beach, Va. for possession of small amounts of marijuana. Authorities moved in for the arrest after being tipped off that the smell of marijuana was wafting from the group's tour bus, according to the Associated Press. Beenie Man's attorney, Barry Taylor, said the search was illegal, because authorities had not obtained a warrant. Police, however, maintain the Beenie and his bandmates consented to the search, AP reports. In other legal news, the rap star with the biggest rap sheet, Ol' Dirty Bastard, born Russell Tyrone Jones, was once again taken into custody on Wednesday (July 28), after a bail bonds company representative revealed that the rapper has had a hard time making payments, according to AP. ODB is awaiting trial on a number of cases, including an incident where he allegedly threatened security at the House Of Blues in West Hollywood, Calif. He has also been ordered to stand trial under a new law that prohibits convicted felons from wearing body armor or bulletproof vests. In other news, the rapper is featured on Chris Rock's recently released Bigger & Blacker album, offering his own unique worldview. On the album, Rock jokes that "the ODB couldn't have possibly committed all of those crimes; Coolio did some of that sh-t."
