Diamond Rio Reacts To Terrorist Attack

(9/11/01, 4 p.m. ET) -- News of Tuesday's (September 11) terrorist tragedies put a damper on the 10th annual Diamond Rio charity golf tournament. Despite the bleak circumstances, the group persevered and went ahead with plans as scheduled.
This event was not the group's first to coincide with national disaster. In the midst of shooting the video for their debut single, "Meet In The Middle," then-President George Bush set Operation Desert Storm into motion. Diamond Rio lead singer Marty Roe recalls the group sitting closely by the radio all night, but managed to carry on.
"We went on," he tells LAUNCH. "The life went on there and we did that video that night and we're gonna go on with this golf tournament today. I just think that we need to go on with what we're doing in this country and we don't need to let what's going on--the terrorism that's happening at the moment--we don't need to let that stop this country from moving. This train's gonna keep on moving. They want us to stop and shake in our boots and not go on with our life and I don't think this country's gonna let that happen."
The Diamond Rio Golf tournament benefited the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization of Middle Tennessee.
