(11/9/99, 6 p.m. ET) - John Bell, bassist for the ska-pop band Buck-O-Nine, was upgraded from critical to stable condition today after undergoing surgery in a Pittsburgh hospital last night (Nov. 8).

The surgery revealed "a growth on his intestine," says a spokesperson for the band. No further details were available.

Bell was initially admitted to Pittsburgh University Hospital for internal bleeding prior to a local gig on Saturday (Nov. 6). He will remain there for at least another eight to nine days.

All of Buck-O-Nine's November dates have been canceled. "The tour plans are definitely on hold," says the band's spokesperson. Still, December marks the eighth anniversary for the San Diego outfit, with special events scheduled. Thus, the band intends to be gigging again by then, whether with Bell or a temporary replacement.
