(2/3/02, 10 a.m. ET) -- Singer-songwriter Tanya Donelly cut her teeth in Throwing Muses, the Breeders, and Belly in the '90s. In 2002, she finds herself balancing music and motherhood. She recently completed Beautysleep, a collection of 11 songs set for release February 19. Donelly told LAUNCH her music and writing was impacted by her daughter Gracie.
"I think having Gracie brought me into the world in a way that I hadn't been before," she said. "Sort of grounded me, and for the first time I really connected with my body because she was inside it growing. And also in terms of I think when you have a kid you really have to pay attention to what's going on around you and I had the luxury of sort of being able to concentrate completely on my creative process for many years and that was the only place where I lived. And, so she brought me here."
Donelly added, "Having something shift the balance so that she is really my first priority you would need a telescope to see my other priorities from where she stands. It made me more relaxed in writing and in recording. The whole process was much more pleasurable for me because all of that internal pressure that I used to put on myself was gone. And I actually loved writing again and recording again because it wasn't my only self definition."
Beautysleep is her second album. The first was 1997's Lovesongs For Underdogs. A U.S. tour is in the works, and she already has three dates scheduled over in the U.K. beginning February 26 in Glasgow.
Tracks on the album include: "Life Is But A Dream," "The Storm," "The Night You Saved My Life," "Keeping You," "Moonbeam Monkey," "Wrap Around Skirt," "Another Moment," "Darkside," "So Much Song," "The Wave," and "The Shadow."
