Shaquille O'Neal Inks Deal For His T.W.Ism. Record Label

04/12/2001 5:00 PM, Yahoo! Music

(4/12/01, 5 p.m. ET) -- NBA superstar and part-time rapper Shaquille O'Neal has inked a deal with Trauma Records for his T.W.Ism. imprint. The deal will also allow Trauma Records access to the T.W.Ism. catalogue.

O'Neal will release his fifth album, Shaquille O'Neal Presents His Superfriends, on July 24. The album was produced by Tank, L.T. Hutton, Rick Rock, Amir Questlove of the Roots, and Chea Pope. Some of the guests on the set include Nate Dogg, R.L., Peter Gunz and Lord Tariq, 112, Jayo Felony, WC, Ludacris, Joi, Mos Def, Common, Black Thought, Black Rob, Twista, Talib Kweli, Memphis Bleek, and Angie Stone.

O'Neal first foray into rap came on the Fu-Schnickens' "What's Up Doc?" O'Neal followed the cameo with his debut full-length album, Shaq Diesel, which eventually went platinum on sales of 1 million copies. O'Neal's sophomore set, Shaq-Fu: Da Return was certified gold for sales of 500,000 copies, but 1996's You Can't Stop The Reign and 1998's Respect failed to recreate the commercial success of his first two outings.
