Vertical Horizon's 'Everything' Speaking To Fans

(3/23/00, 1 p.m. ET) - More and more fans are connecting with "Everything You Want," the breakthrough hit single from Boston band
Vertical Horizon. Vocalist/guitarist Matt Scannell says his composition didn't stand out in his eyes as a potential hit in comparison to anything else off their major-label debut,
Everything You Want. Still, Scannell tells LAUNCH he's plenty moved by the response to it. "For me there was something special about 'Everything You Want,' but it wasn't greater or lesser necessarily than some of the other tunes on the record," he says. "Having said that, I do think that a lot of people are connecting with the lyric and the, and the way it's sort of expressed in the song and for that I'm, I'm extremely honored. I'm glad that people are feeling like it's something that speaks to them. So, I'm absolutely fired up." Meanwhile, the acoustic-minded quartet is readying its second single, "You're A God," a song that might propel the now-gold album from which it came toward platinum status. In other Vertical Horizon news, the band begins a swing of American dates tonight (March 23) in Dallas, Texas. While the decade-old Boston band has toured before, this marks the first time it will headline a tour as group with a hit single. Guitarist/vocalist Keith Kane tells LAUNCH that the newfound success is a story beyond their wildest imaginations. "I think it's a dream come true, you know? It's a huge accomplishment that, when we first started out wasn't really, you know, an option," he says. "We were never thinking, like, 'Hey let's get a gold record.' We were saying to ourselves, hey, you know, we'll have something in the Library of Congress and we'll be able to have something that, you know, our grandkids will be able to listen to and say, 'Hey, check this out, my grandfather used to, made an album.' I think now that we're gonna be able to hand them a plaque with a gold record on it is, is, you know, makes my heart leap."
