Rhino's Gay and Lesbian Compilations For Lambda Charity

(7/30/97) - On October 28th Rhino Records will release not but two compilations celebrating the musical trends and tastes of gay and lesbian culture. The first disc, Women Like Us: Lesbian Favorites, features 18 tracks by such artists as k.d. lang, Jill Sobule, Ani DiFranco, Phranc and Sandra Bernhard. It is perhaps the first compilation since 1977's banned Lesbian Concentrate to directly reach out to the lesbian community. The other Rhino release is Circuit Party Spins, a groovin' salute to circuit parties--tribal festivals that unite gay men for euphoric, weekend-long dance marathons. The disc, which was compiled by DJ Julian Marsh, features tracks by Bumpin' K, Frankie Knuckles and even Bananarama. A portion of the proceeds from these albums will go to Lambda Legal Defense And Education Fund, a national organization dedicated to defending the civil rights of lesbians, gay men and those living with HIV/AIDS.
